Revelations of the Heart

The heart shield of last Sunday’s sketch was so crisp and defined. It kept flowering into more symbolism and I knew when it was completed that it was holding many more secrets than just a shielded and protected heart. Psalm 91 was in mind as I drew the feathers surrounding and holding it. It was anointed with flame. And the numerology was hiding something. Why seven points holding the heart? I started with four, went to six, and got explicitly to change it to seven. Why 12 bevels on the outside of the heart, and why number them in counter-clockwise order?

So I took the questions to another member and got more insight into the heart. In her words:

“I see it as tucked away preparing to unfurl. Sitting back, waiting, growing, pulsing in a safe space. Ready to explode to unfurl to be unleashed to do what needs to be done.”

“I see it in color. Shield of FAITH. It is a living breathing thing. I see it as purple and red. Red – Blood of Jesus, love of God, blood of the lamb, atonement, salvation. Purple – Priesthood, kingship, royalty, mediator, wealthy.”

What about the seven points that hold it?

She said, “Seven is the spiritual number of perfection. Sacred and complete.”

I realized the seven points were where God holds the faithful heart in perfect completeness!

The 12 represents the tribes of Israel, but I knew there was more significance. At first, this member thought they were the foundation of our faith. But then the significance of the edge hit her. There’s more.

“The edges. The surrounding. The encompassing cloud of witnesses. Hebrews 12:1. Hebrews 12 lists saints!!”

Hebrews 12:1 – “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”

We both believe the numbers are counterclockwise to represent time, drawing back to the 12 tribes in the past, while connecting it with the cloud of witnesses of the present. Now when you think of God shielding your heart, you can reflect on the great depth and meaning to that statement!
