Americans are on a “mountaintop” experience, but that can change. We are not immune to the persecution of the church around the world. We live in perilous times according to the Bible.
Revelation 2:8 – He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death. God’s word specifically to the persecuted church.
City of Smyrna was the “Beauty of Asia”. Wealthy commercial center where Myrrh was created. It was a suffering church. Of all the seven churches, this is the one that the Lord said He would crown.
Death would not defeat Smyrna or ANYONE like them. Jesus has already been there. He truly understands their need and has the ability to supply us. He is aware of the tribulation of the church. In the world you will have tribulation, but Jesus has overcome the world!
Many of the early Christians were completely destitute because of persecution.
Blasphemy – speech that injures. People turned against the Christians of Smyrna and degraded them. There is hope when we turn our eyes to Jesus. There is a war and we have an enemy. He will use slander as a tactic to draw people down.
